Roderick Martin, LMSW

Adoption Coordinator

As an Adoption Coordinator, Rod Martin, LMSW, works with families once they have been matched with a placement of a child. He supports adoptive parents, supervises cases, and develops resources, including the child’s health and psychological records. He earned his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Texas and his Master of Social Work from the University of Houston.

Why I started with Arms Wide Adoption Services:

I had friends who worked for Arms Wide, and they had such good things to say about the organization, which led me to look at job opportunities here. Arms Wide’s mission of transforming the lives of kids in need of forever homes really drew me in as well. Plus, the whole atmosphere at Arms Wide is welcoming—all the coworkers are like a family.

My favorite part about my job:

My favorite part is when families finalize an adoption. They’re finally a forever family!

My least favorite part:

It’s heartbreaking when adoption disruption occurs. (An adoption disruption takes place when parents decide they are unable to go through with an adoption after they have been matched with the child.)

More about me:

I’m an adoptive dad to a wonderful 12-year-old. I love to travel and learn about new cultures. My favorite international trip so far was to Australia and New Zealand—the cultures are so distinct and interesting and the vistas are breathtaking. I’m dreaming about visiting South Africa next!

Ask me about:

Sports and my Swarovski crystal collection.
