Recruiter / Home Developer
As the Recruiter / Home Developer, Nancy Torres searches for families who could provide a forever home to the some of the thousands of children in care of the State of Texas. She helps recruit families and guide them through the process of becoming adoptive parents. Nancy graduated from the University of Texas – Pan American, with a degree in psychology. Learning about trauma guided her to work with children in care.
Why I started with Arms Wide Adoption Services:
I’ve worked with multiple agencies providing services to children in the foster care system. From the moment I met the staff at Arms Wide, I knew that I would be surrounded by a group of people determined to find loving homes for these kids.
My favorite part about my job:
Adoption Consummation Hearings – I love seeing the smiles on children’s faces knowing that they have found their forever home. The court date pictures are the best!
My least favorite part:
Knowing there are still 6,000 children in the state of Texas waiting for their forever family. I’ve received the late-night phone calls for children needing a home. It’s heartbreaking to have to reject a child because there are not enough homes.
More about me:
I have a large family. What most consider extended family, I consider my close family. My family taught me that if you have a dollar, you give a dollar, and if you have a minute, you give a minute. In my culture, family is everything, and I want that for every child I help.
