Senior Post Adoption Case Manager

As a Senior Post Adoption Case Manager, Angela obtains proof of eligibility from the family seeking services and develops a service plan which incorporates the adopted child’s history and relates their history to pre-approved services. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of Phoenix and a master’s degree in Human Services with a specialization in Marriage & Family from Liberty University. Angela discovered her desire to serve her community at a very young age.

Why I started with Arms Wide:

I have worked in the social service field for more than 20 years in different capacities. Since moving to Texas 15 years ago, I have spent the last 13 years working with abused and/or neglected children through Child Protective Services – Sexual Abuse Division, and through foster care agencies that I have worked for. I have been involved first hand: (1) Why children are removed from their biological families and the impact it has on the child; (2) The difficulty the child has adjusting to out of home placement; and (3) The foster/adoptive parents’ challenges when trying to understand the child’s behavioral struggles. For these reasons, I understand the importance of a child having a family who truly loves them.

My favorite part about my job:

Seeing “the light” come back on the face of a child that has been through so much adversity in his/her young life, because of abuse and/or neglect . This, for me, is the biggest reward I can possibly ask for

More about me:

As a survivor of child abuse (and the mother of an abused child), my mission in life, since I could remember, was to save children who are being (or have been) abused or neglected. Since I can remember, I have always wanted to help people. However, because I initially did not receive help for my own abuse, my early adult life was very similar to many of the children who are in the foster care system – defiant and out of control. Once I decided to address my abuse issues, I became a huge advocate for abused/neglected children. I went back to college full-time at age 40 as a single mother of 2 sons; and worked full-time at the Texas Department of Child Protective Service as an Administrative Assistant. I received my bachelors and master’s degrees within 3 years. I initially wanted to be a Marriage Counselor; however, while working with sexually abused children, I knew I wanted to do social work. My goal is to obtain my license in Social Work; which I will pursue very soon.
