Guest Blog: Love Fosters Hope on Child Abuse Prevention Month

Love Fosters Hope is a Texas-based non-profit organization with many facets, but one purpose: To impact the lives of children and teens in foster care who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Their mission is to inspire hope and bring healing to foster children and youth. Arms Wide Adoption Services is proud to work with Love Fosters Hope. We wanted to pass along the events they are hosting in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Since 1983 our nation has designated April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Our primary focus is raising awareness of the struggles foster care children face due to the trauma they have experienced. We want to share opportunities of how communities can become involved and help. The heartbreaking statistics for kids aging out of care can be daunting. But we have found that we can change the present and future for kids who deserve far better than their past. Together, through love, we can change the face of foster care.

We invite you to join us as we bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month:

Concert For Hope

Thursday, April 18th will be a Concert for Hope, a Child Abuse Awareness event at Market Street. David Caceres Quintet, a live Jazz and R&B band will be performing. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic basket to enjoy the concert. We have some very special moments schedule to honor children and share how people in our community are taking the initiative to serve foster children in special ways. Learn more here.

Information Meeting

On Tuesday, April 23rd from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., our local foster and adoption organizations will be present inviting participants to an information meeting to learn more about volunteering or beginning the journey to foster or adopt. This info night will be at Market Street in the store front next to Chipotle.

Empowered To Connect Conference

On April 26th and 27th, we are hosting a free two-day training to learn how you can help children and teens heal from trauma. Experts in the field of Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)  will be teaching the sessions. The key to helping children who suffer from trauma is to first understand how it impacts the brain and effects behavior. You will leave this conference with tools which will better equip you to meet the child’s unmet needs and create a safe, nurturing environment where kids can heal. The conference is free and childcare is only $5 a day per child. CEU’s are available. Register here for Empowered to Connect.

Love Fosters Hope is excited about the future for children and teens in foster care.  Focusing on raising awareness and equipping people with proven tools will change the negative statistics we have grown way too familiar hearing. To learn more about Love Fosters Hope, visit their website here.
